Postcard for Irom

May 4th, 2012

Irom ‘Chanu’ Sharmila, (The Iron Lady of Manipur) is a civil rights activist and poet. She has been on a hunger strike for the last 11 years, demanding the Indian government to repeal the Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act, 1958 (AFSPA), which empowers military forces to arrest, shoot, torture & even kill anyone on the grounds of mere suspicion.

The Root and the Save Sharmila Campaign, Mumbai have enabled an art initiative to support her and extend solidarity to the cause; asking designers, artists, illustrators to create small pieces to be exhibited across the city and then sent to Irom herself.

Below is my postcard. You can download the printable version here. Please do start talking about the AFSPA and its severe affect on the freedoms of people in our troubled states… Thanks!
